Firefighting - Deluge system installation was created by epervier
Hi,
We have hydrocarbon installation with an firefighting system.
the questions :
- When do we install a deluge system?
- Where should we install a deluge system? Storage Tank? Equipment? etc
- From which capacity of storage for tank, the deluge system must be installed ? 1m3, 2m3, 5m3 ...?
Please advise
Sofiane

Sofiane,
First of all you did not give us a starting point for answering your question.
Where in the world is this plant?
If it is in the United States (US) then I would start with the following:
The Client is required to define the the "Standard" which in to be applied to the facility. He has two primary choices (there may be others but these are the main ones):
1. FM Standards (Factory Mutual) www.fmglobal.com/riskessentials
2. NFPA Standards (National Fire Prevention Association) catalog.nfpa.org/Industrial-Hazards-C3718.aspx
Who the plant is insured by also makes a big difference on whether or not there in fire protection.
Does the Client have an outside Insurance Company that will be responsible for Fire Loss coverage or is the Client "Self Covered"?

Further to JOP's advice unless particular piece of equipment mandates that deluge system is required I would expect deluge to be used where monitor coverage is not practical due to e.g. obstructions or height. Both would be connected to your firewater ring main.
