Looking to get back into Piping Design was created by dwberger
To All,

I would like to ask a question of the group. I will need to provide a little background first. I have about 18 years of Piping Design experience (1987 to 2005). During that time I also served in the US Navy Reserves. In 2005 I was recalled to Active Duty and will be retiring within the next six years. I serve as a C5ISR Officer where I manage the operations and maintenance (to include the mechanical and electrical support systems) of each system. I hold a BS in Computer Information Systems and a Masters in Information Management. My certifications include the PMP and CISSP (Navy requirement). I love building 3D computer models and piping design. When I retire I would like to go back to a job in Piping Design. My question is what can I do in the next few years to make me marketable as a Piping Designer? Thank you in advance for the help.

V/r,
Commander Berger

Why, dealing with the layoffs, being away from home, depending on the price of oil, stay with Information system. Piping has been DOWN for 7 years since the price of oil has collapse.

Zbest1966,

Think wider than just oil.
Piping designers operate in many different market sectors .... opportunities exist for piping designers in Oil & Gas, Mining & Mineral Processing, Pharmaceutical, BioPharma, Chemicals, Dairy, Food & beverage, Semiconductors ..... basically any industry that relies on a network of piping systems to convey fluid through its process.

The downside is that you will have to chase the work from time to time ... but, have hardhat, will travel!
