Meaning of the abbreviations was created by vishal.khadke
Dear All,
In one of the piping specification following information is given (I have written exactly in the same manner it is written in the specs)
* Rating / Finish = CL300 RF 125 AARH (Note.1) [ Note1- AARH= Arithmetic Average Roughness Height]
* Basic Material = Carbon Steel
* NDE = 10 %
* PWHT = N
* Nominal Corrosion Allowance = 1.5mm
* Design Conditions = Max.Temp.- 380 °C / Max.Press. = 14 barg [ Extreme minimum temperature = 6°C ]
* Joint Construction = SB-SW / LB-BW
In the specs the meaning of the abbreviations are not given. I presume these would be the standard abbreviations used by piping engineers. I could understand it but I am not 100% sure. Please Help me.
1) What is NDE ? Is it about Non-destructive testing of weld joints
2) What is PWHT (Is it Pre-weld heat treatment)
3) What could be the meaning of SB-SW / LB-BW ? (Is it Short Bore - Socket Weld / Long Bore - Butt Weld )

Thanks & Regards,
VISHAL KHADKE

1) What is NDE ? Is it about Non-destructive testing of weld joints
NDE = Non-Destructyive "Examination (E for Examination) Meaning Radio graphic or other type

2) What is PWHT (Is it Pre-weld heat treatment)
PWHT - Post Weld Heat Treatment - The P it for Post or after the welding is done

3) What could be the meaning of SB-SW / LB-BW ? (Is it Short Bore - Socket Weld / Long Bore - Butt Weld )
SB = Small Bore and LB = Large Bore

Do it once and Do it Right

Thank you very much 'JOP'.

* Does small bore necessarily mean 2" & Below pipe?

Yes, normally 2" and smaller is considered "Small Bore pipe"

@alegvold.
Most of the cases it is as you said.
But it changes with client to client or project to project.
I remember one project where piping 3" and below is called Small bore(but these were buttweldedtill 2").
Also in current project it is 1.5" and below is small bore.(here also 2" and above were buttwelded)

Thank You.
