Course Description
This course is via the Internet (Skype) so no travel is required.
This course incorporates more than four decades of personal experience in a “How-To†approach focusing on the position of the Piping Engineering Lead (PEL), very simply the "Lead in Charge" of all Piping personnel (whether 20, 50,150 or more) and activities on a Process Plant Project.
The current course runs from Jan. 25, 2013 to Mar. 22, 2013 (7 weeks)

What is the Role and Responsibility of a Leader
What a Leader needs to know about projects
What it means to Manage
What it means to Plan, Organize, Staff, Direct and Control
The course is based on the Book: Piping Engineering Leadership for Process Plant Projects, written by the Instructor
Who should take this course?
The typical candidate for this training is the person who:
is near the point in his or her career when they may be assigned to the role of Lead in Charge
is currently acting as second in charge and wants to know more and do better
is now the Lead in Charge but has never had the benefit of any training and may be struggling
is now the Lead in Charge and wants to validate and reinforce the current methods in use
Course Prerequisites
The candidates for this course will be required to meet certain acceptance requirements. These requirements include:
Education (Relevance to Piping Engineering and Design)
Training (Relevance to Piping Engineering and Design)
Type of Experience (Relevance to Piping Engineering and Design)
Duration of Employment (5 to 8 years minimum depending on the type and totality of assignments)
Note: An up to date Resume (CV) and a full face photo is requested with the candidates application

Project types, terms and execution philosophy
Grassroots Projects
Revamp and rebuild projects

Procurement responsibilities
Pipe shop fabrication
Contracts and construction work packages (CWP)
Week #4 - Project Definition
Scope Of Work (SOW)
Estimating
Week #5 – Plan for Execution
Scheduling
Week #6 – Ounce of Prevention
Planning and organization
Staffing and directing
Controlling change
Week #7 – Job status and Final Close Out
Reporting
Project completion

James O. Pennock has more than 45 years in the process plant Piping Design Engineering profession. He has been involved in home office and job site assignments on refinery, chemical, petrochemical, power and other projects. Most of his experience was with Fluor. He is also the author of the book "Piping Engineering Leadership for Process Plant Projects". He is now retired, living in Florida, USA and occasionally does consulting work.
Anita R. Legvold has more than 35 years in the process plant Piping Design Engineering profession. She has been involved in the home office and job site assignments on refinery, power, pharmaceutical, food processing and other projects. Her experience was gained through employment at Fluor, Bechtel, Dow Chemical, Monsanto Chemical, Tropicana, TECO Power and others. She is now retired, living in Florida, USA and occasionally does consulting work.

The sign-up for the first class was not in sufficient numbers to make a viable class.
Please stay tuned, the class is being rescheduled for early next year (2013).

The next PEL Class has been scheduled for a January 25th (Friday) start date and the deadline for sending the CVs, photo and e-mail address is January 4th (Friday)
The class will be 7 weeks and conducted via the internet (Skype).
The class content will be the same as listed above.
