pipe support shoes was created by mgalicki
If you had 2 pipes to run on the same pipe rack, 1 steam & 1 potable water, both insulated. Would you use a pipe shoe under the (non-steam line)?
Thanks for the simple yes or no answer.

Why would you insulate a potable water line?
Is this project in an arctic location?

When dealing with any insulated lines it is much easier to use anchors & guides when they are on shoes! I have seen lines that were insulated and had no shoes, but the under section at these contact points between supports and pipe had to be left bear, the insulation gang putting on the insulation had no ideas of the amount of pipe movement at these locations so add insulation up to the support, and then the pipe would move after commissioning and would start to peel back the insulation at these locations ...pretty ugly. That or they would use guides (angle iron up above half the diameter of the pipe) on both sides of the pipe and the same thing would happen! ...Shoes just make all these problems go away!

Thanks 11ECHO.
All the good info is appreciated, but I'm still not clear on the preference of using the shoes on the insulated potable line that will be ran next to this steam line.
Chime in anyone.
Thanks for your input.

If I was going to Heat Trace and insulate the non-steam (potable water) line then Yes I would put it on a Shoe.
