top suction top discharge pump piping was created by shishirmtech
In top suction and top discharge pumps there will always be Pockets to accommodate valves, strainers etc., so the pocket.
Is this acceptable for suction line for this type of pump, and if yes what is the reason?

Pockets? No!!!
Pockets are not recommended, not necessary and not acceptable.
There is some missing information about your pumps that is critical to this question.
a. Is this the common two pump (Pump and a spare) situation found in most plants?
b. Are these pumps a multi-stage pump?
c. Are these pumps Horizontal split case or vertical split case?
d. Is the suction source (tank or vessel) mounted in an elevated structure?
e. Is there enough room to spread these pumps apart to add a small structure for an elevated platform (valve operation) and the necessary pipe supports to reduce the pump nozzle loading?

If I knew the answers to all these questions I would do the following:
1. Spread the two pumps apart
2. Design a structure that is as open as possible at grade (clear for pump maintenance). The first platform level will be for valve operation and Strainer cleaning.
3. Route the piping connected to the two suctions and discharges towards the platform located between the two pumps. Provide a removable Spool Piece so the space above the pumps will be clear for Crane access to remove pump internals..
4. The piping will turn and be routed down both sides of the platform much like Hand Rail then join to one line. This also keeps the space above the pumps clear.
5. The top level of the structure will be for attaching Constant Support Spring Hangers to support the suction and discharge lines and reduce nozzle loading.

I am well aware that you cannot "see" into my head so it may be hard at first to grasp this concept. But please give it some thought, it has been done before.
I also recognize that people might think it is too late to be moving pumps and adding a new structure.
Remember, a few dollars spent here now, might save a whole lot more later.
