PDS
The following is from Intergraph.

PDS®

PDS is a comprehensive, intelligent computer-aided design/engineering (CAD/CAE) application for plant design, construction, and operations. Production-driven, it helps EPCs and owner/operators deliver the best design possible - and do it more efficiently to reduce the total installed cost of the project. Due to its capability and commitment to the industry, many leading engineering firms and owner/operators have selected PDS as their corporate standard.

The software also includes enhancements to:

* Piping Design Environment
* Equipment Modeling Environment
* Isometric Drawing Generation
* Material Data Publisher
* Project Engineer HVAC
* Drawing Manager

PDMS
The following is from Wikipedia.
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

PDMS as it is known in the 3D CAD industry, is a customizable, multi-user and multi-discipline, engineer controlled design software package for engineering, design and construction projects in, but not limited to, offshore and onshore oil & gas industry, chemical & process plants, mining, pharmaceutical & food industry, power generation and paper industries.[1]

Jop, Have to take you to task on this!!

PDS is a comprehensive, intelligent (Really!!) computer-aided design/engineering (CAD/CAE) application for plant design, construction, and operations. Production-driven, it helps EPCs and owner/operators deliver the best design possible (Assuming the Designers know what they are doing! ) - and do it more efficiently to reduce the total installed cost of the project. Due to its capability and commitment to the industry, many leading engineering firms and owner/operators have selected PDS as their corporate standard.

The software also includes enhancements to:
* Piping Design Environment
* Equipment Modeling Environment - Pretty much non-intelligent, ie multiple lines can be connected to the same nozzle. This is not allowed to happen in PDMS
* Isometric Drawing Generation - Produced by Alias - so it works!!
* Material Data Publisher - Least said about this pile of junk the better!
* Project Engineer HVAC
* Drawing Manager - Use OrthoGen, much better product!!

Both are computer aid drafting/design programs to generate Piping drawings. ...In other words another way to draw lines and circles with a computer! I have no experience with PDS, but I do with PDMS! I find this program to be the most user "UN-FRIENDLY" I've ever had to deal with! Then we found out what PDMS stands for ...Piping Done More Slowly!!!

I think if you wanted to just 'draw lines and circles' you'd just use Autocad or Microstation, and not a full-blown 3D Modelling system!!

And you do get more than just Piping Drawings from both systems, like Material Takeoffs (painfully with PDS MDP!), Clash Detection (as you are routing Pipe with PDMS - sort of with PDS), Verification that what is being modelled (or has been modelled) is valid and up to date with the latest Specs, Weights, C of G reports (important for offshore - but painful to do if the weight tables havent already been created in PDS!!), and also downstream (or is it upsteam) advantages, like Review and walkthrough models that can be used on site etc etc. (Ever used WalkinSide and got the guy swimming!! Managers and Clients LOVE that!! )
