pig launcher and receiver was created by kannapiran.mech
Pig launcher and Pig Receiver is used for cleaning of pipes... My question is how it works...Where it is commonly fitted?

kannapiran,

Well yes and no. There are Pipe Cleaning Pigs that clean the inside of pipelines but the Pig Launcher and the Pig Receiver does not in it self do any of the actual cleaning.
There are also many, many other types of Pigs.
Go to this website ( www.pigsunlimited.com/asp/default.asp ) and spend some time going through all the different types of Pigs.

"My question is how does it work?"
The launcher allows you to place a "Pig" inside the Launcher chamber, close the door then route the fluid (or Gas) into the chamber behind the Pig and push the pig down the pipeline. The Pig receiver catches the Pig at the other end and allows you to divert the normal flow around the chamber so you can remove the Pig.
"Where is it commonly fitted?"
Pig Launchers and Pig Receivers are commonly fitted to each end of a long cross country type pipeline or each segment of a long pipeline. They might also be fitted to pipelines from off shore drilling platforms to onshore tank farms or processing facilities.

If you ever end up in the field when they are 'pigging' lines you'll know right away why they are called 'pigs'!

Reality is a trigger word and we're quickly losing touch...

Not really related to Pig Launchers (well it is really!). Many years back I worked on the design team at Matthew Hall Engineering on the Marathon Oil East Brae platform using PDMS (way before Windows and interactive graphics - even before colour monitors!!), anyway, one of the guys had a cartoon which had been drawn over a long period of a platform showing a 'Pig' launcher and receiver with REAL PIGS!!

The sketch had developed and the platform ended up literally covered in cartoon Pigs!!

Where has all this artistic talent gone???????
