Fiber Glass Pipe is joined by "Butt Joints"however these are not like the Butt-Weld joints in the normal steel pipe.
An FRP or GRP Butt-joint is done something like this (simple version):
- True up the pipe (or fitting) ends
- Sand off a slight taper (1) on the out side surface of both pieces
- Position both pieces and clamp in place
- Spread a thin coat of the proper Epoxy (or other binder) to the taper of both pieces
- Wrap the area with Glass fiber mat
- Apply more Epoxy to the whole joint area
- Wrap with more Fiber matting
- Repeat these two steps as directed
- when the proper joint thickness is achieved then coat the finishes joint with a final coat of Epoxy
- Make sure that no fiber mat is exposed to the atmosphere.

Note 1, The taper should be about 3" long on each piece for small pipe sizes and 6" long or more for larger size pipe.

I don't know if there is a Code for that.
I seem to remember (40 years back now) that we furnished our GRP Vendor the Design Pressure and temperature for our systems and they "Built" the pipe to meet those conditions.
