I'm a very junior piper that wants to become a very smart senior piper some day. I stumbled onto this site today. Hoping you all can help me reach my goal.

Dose anyone have a glossary of piping terms? Something that would have a legend of abbreviations would be helpful.

I have a drawing of a vessel I'm putting into a model. It has a flange with no dimentions just an annotation of 6" OSP. There is a boot with a flange that appears to be directly below it. What is "OSP"? My co worker suggested "Other Side Please" but I've never meet a piper that polite
Also if some one knows what M.C. under Type in the schedule of openings is? might make thigs go easier.

Last, is there a search engine for this site? it sure would help mine needed information.

Hi Cadpole,

There is a glossary here:

pipingdesigners.com/downloads/Glossary.htm

As a newbie, it would be worth your while to go to the "Training" and "Tips" tabs on the top.
Get a binder and make a Training and Tips file, to print and use the information you find there.

This will be a very handy reference book to use as you progress through your training as a piping designer.

Keep an eye on the training, tips and tools areas as they are updated and added to regularly.

Once you have read and digested the topics, use the forum here to ask questions and discuss them.

Unfortunately we don't have a search engine on the site, but it's a good idea, which I will look into.

Thanks for the link, that earned a favorites button. It didn't have the two acronyms I'm looking for right now but, it had some I was looking for the other day.

Good advice witht he tips and training binder. Next time the Supervisor says" look busy for a few minute while I dig up some work, I'll do that. ( Rather be busy than look busy)

Thank you

Cadpole …The list Anton gave you is very good, but I think you’ll find that some terms are “local” …terms known only by people in the area you work in. SO you have to have an “ear” for them and remember to put them in your library. Case in point is where some younger people refer to piping area drawings as “GA’s” …I believe JOP enjoys this term! …As far as my “guess” on your abbreviations: M.C. (Man Cover) & OSP (Observe Standard Projection) …and these are only guesses!!!

I have added a search button to the main home page.

I will search the site for any term you are looking for.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to want to search the forum, probably something to do with googles indexing system.
I try to see if I can get it to work.

In the mean time, there is a facility to search posts on the forum also.

I will roll out the search button onto other pages once I have figured out how to add the forum posts into the search.
