Full Bore Vs Reduced Bore was created by leozero
When do I use full bore or full port valves and when reduced bore valves in natural gas instalations? I´m building a 4" by pass and in order to reduce costs I'm planning to install Reduced bore valves. Am I acting correctly??

Thanxs

Replied by Jop on topic A) Are you the Piping
A) Are you the Piping Material Engineer specifing this valve?
or
B) Are you a Piping Designer doing the piping?

If (A) then you should be asking the Process Engineer if pressure drop across this valve is critical.
If there is no Process Engineer then ask the Client

If (B) then you should check the Piping Material Specifications and use the valve specified.

What kind of bypass valve is it? Does this valve bypass a control station? Did you consider the reducer cost?

Replied by leozero on topic We finally use full port
We finally use full port valves, but I think we could save some money since pressure loss wasn´t an issue (it was located in the middle of a 10" line and will be used very rarely). We installed the by-pass by hot-tapping the line so we didn´t use a reducer.
