Gusset plate for small bore branch was created by Ajak Piper
Hi,
Can anyone explain on where or when we should apply gusset plate to support small bore branch?
Can it be applied at insulated lines?

Thank you.

Replied by Jop on topic Gusset plate for small bore branch
Regarding the application of Gusset Plates to support small bore branch connections.
- when (why) should we apply them? - In the past Gussets have been applied to 2" and smaller piping in "at Risk" Systems subject to Water Hammer Shock, Reciprocating Compressor Suction and Discharge piping subject to constant or intermittent Vibration. Depending on the Header to Branch difference larger branches (3", 4", 6" etc) may also require Gussets on Flare (or Blowdown) systems
- where should we apply them? - Branches on systems identified as "at Risk" should have a Knee Brace bracket to reinforce and stabilize the smaller pipe (branch) to the larger (Header) pipe.
- Can they be applied on insulated lines? - Yes, as long as you add the Gusset before you apply the Insulation.
