Hi all

Can somebody tell me the difference between various seal plans.

My query comes from a SEAL PLAN P&ID that shows
cooling water supply & return for seal pot plugged.. for SEAL PLAN 11A/52B, 13A/52B

whereas seal plan 21A/52B has a separate exchanger with seal pot
both the exchanger & the seal pot has cooling water supply & return.

Here are two good sites for the information you need.
The Standard that covers this is API 682

http://www.flowserve.com/files/Files/Li ... API682.pdf

Thanks Jop

The papers in the link given provided some info regarding seal plans.

While searching i also found this link, it helped me lot

http://pdf.directindustry.com/pdf/flows ... 62346.html

from it and the papers in link provided by you, what I understood is :-

1) pump may consist of 1 or 2 seals
2) each seal has different seal plan
3) for inner seal the codes are like 11, 12, 13, etc
4) for dual seal arrangement, seal pot for buffer fluid is added, with PLAN codes 52, 53, etc.

Please correct me if I got some wrong inderstanding

some more queries:-

1) are these plan arrangements comletely independent of each other ?
2) do plan 52 always require cooling of buffer fluid, independent of being used with PLAN 11 or PLAN 21. (because my P&ID shows CWR & CWS lines for reservoir plugged in case of PLAN 11A/52B)

1. I am not sure I understand your question. I think the answer to your question is "yes". Each plan is different and suited to a specific type of fluid (Hot, Cold, slurry, high pressure, etc)

2. I cannot answer for your P&ID. I assume you are a piper, if so you need to talk to both the Pump engineer and the process engineer and base your followup actions on their directions.

Also look at this web site

hi JOP,
The link you provided is not working properly.
I think it is 2 Page PDF but I am not able to see it.(I don't know if others can or not).
Can you provide some other link?

What I understand is
Whenever Plan52 is Combined with Plan11 or 13 it does not require cooling water.
Plan52 will Require a cooling water with Paln 21A or 12.

I have one more doubt.
There are two plans on 52A & 52B on the same P&ID but for different pumps.
Will anybody pl tell for what "A" & "B" Stands? I am not able to find it in the links JOP provided.
Thanks.
Siddharth Jain
