Have an iPhone? Apple iTunes offers new piping Apps!

Pipe schedules, dimensions, fittings dimensions, pipe spacing dimensions, stub ends, valve legnths, flange data & dims, and lots more are now available for iPhone users offered in 'Apps..'
These 'Apps' can be found in Apple's iTunes Store under a 'pipe' search for a nominal fee around $1 to $4 USD..

Of course, each engineering company has their own standard piping chart dimensions, etc. but these piping 'Apps' offer quick and convienent standard data and dimensions if you are designing a piping arangement on a sketch pad, for instance.
Just type in 'pipe' in the search browser on iTunes 'App' icon on your iPhone and scroll down all the way to the bottom to find this valuable information.

There also are free 'Apps' for quick and easy length, area, metric to imperial, etc. conversions.

What is your opinion or thoughts on these piping 'Apps'?

Who created them?
Have they been validated?

I would hate to see bad information put out there and people assume it is correct only to find out later that there are a lot of mistakes.

I don't know the background of these apps, nor do I know if they have been validated.

It would be wise for anyone purchasing these apps to check them against recognised piping standards.

I don't have an iPhone myself ..... I'll wait until PDS is available as an application

I have an iPhone 4G, and I bought the Piping DataBase XTREME. It was $9.99 USD. It's a bit pricey, but very well constructed and very easy to navigate.

Think of PipingAbacus as a piping manual whicha llows a user to add/sub any fitting property like od, oa , weight, thickness, etc.

Piping Abacus is a rich complete piping reference catalog coupled with a specially designed task specific calculator.
All common BW, SW, Flg'd fittings and Valves are presented in the "catalog" section of the app. The user can easily add o'all lengths, weights, 1/2 OD's etc. Sizes include 1/8" through 48" (DIN and Imperial). Flange ratings 150 through 2500. Schedules: 10 - XXS. The menu system was designed to provide the user with fitting images that are large enough to provide details that are commonly found in manufacturer catalogs. All necessary fitting properties are displayed in a table below the image with a clear description, value and a add/sub button.

If you are interested in this app, you fabricate piping, read or create drawings. The interface (blueprints and plastic templates theme) is designed to bring you back to the look and feel of the "old days". It was common for draftsman and engineers to use the easily recognizable green fitting and lettering templates. From the industrial revolution to about 1990, pipers drew their piping layouts, plans and sections on the familiar looking rectangular grid background (Blueprints). We think that the cool interface will bring you back to the early drafting days. There are also four other solid colored backgrounds if you find yourself in the field and need to adjust the background color to see better in bright sunlight.
