All,

I would like to open a discussion on Piping Isometric software.

I'm not talking about the Isogens etc that extract Isometrics from intelligent (data centric) models, but the stand alone softwares, that allow quick, easy production of Isos.

These can be useful when taking 2D piping GA's (yes - they still exist) and supporting documentation to produce fabrication Isos.

I have no real experience of these packages, and would be interested to get your views on the various packages.

So, if you have used such a package (I-Sketch etc), please let us know what you thought.

Hello Anton,

I just buy me a isometric autocad program called ISOmetric applicatie V3.1, because I do a job for a customer who wants all drawings incl. the 2d iso's in autocad.
This software I did use years ago when I worked for an employer (now freelance), and it is very useful to create quick and easy good looking iso’s.

Met vriendelijke groet
Kind Regards

Henk

The ProCad Isometric package is a decent 2D piece of software. It will give a BOM with the drawing from the items placed. It works on an AutoCAD platform

Intergraph sells a product called SmartPlant isometrics, this enables you to do spec based sketching of isometrics and produce full fledged isometric drawing complete with BOM and other reporting.
In addition to this as it is part of the Isogen family it has connectivity to Spoolgen, which is used by fabricators to produce Spool and Erection Isometrics and can take in Isogen output as the begining of the Iso to enable as-building of piping, the as-built iso's can be round tripped back into your 3D model if you are using a 3D system capable of this.

More information on SmartPlant Isometrics: http://www.intergraph.com/products/ppm/smartplant/isometrics/default.aspx

More information on SmartPlant Spoolgen: http://www.intergraph.com/products/ppm/smartplant/spoolgen/default.aspx

By way of disclosure I am an Intergraph employee.

Thanks,

Doug Clark.

Hello Anton,

AcornPipe (http://www.acornpipe.com ) has been out for a few years but is little known outside Canada and the US. With it you can quickly draw isos, and track inventory and fabrication. It even has a "which drawings to release" function which figures out how to make best use of your current stock.

A recently added feature is importing IDF files.

By way of disclosure, I worked on the development of AcornPipe
