What is the maximum thickness variation between two pipes allowed for butt weld ( without any special preparation)?
ASME31.1 states that if the variation exceeds 2mm we give the chamfer (taper bore) the inside diameter of thicker pipe for alignment .
I have also heard a term called transition piece to join the two pipes of different thickness .
what to use when ?
