Hi, I’m looking for feedback on P&ID software, I’m looking at AutoCAD P&ID at the moment, has anyone had any experience of this?

My company is looking for P&ID software. We use Solidworks for design. We’d like to find a great P&ID package! We are a very small company but are willing to invest some dollars for a good program. We want more than just graphics as in plain jane Autocad. I’d rather not have big annual maintenance fees. Any recommendations?

If your company uses AVEVA at all then I would suggest looking into AVEVA PID. It’s a little cumbersome at 1st but once you get rolling it keeps up quite well in change management between the model and PID’s. As well you can tie in E&I elements.

Thanks for that. Aveva did not come up in my searches so far.

Just my $0.02 here…I’ve used 2 different smart P&ID software packages. One was from CATIA and the other was from Autodesk. Both did the job, however I do think the Autodesk program was easier to use and had a much shallower learning curve. So…in my admittedly biased opinion, go with the AutoCAD Plant 3D package…it has the smart P&ID capabilities and the ability to transfer information to the 3D and BOM. The only drawback is writing the project.xml file. That I don’t know how to do, so you’d have to find someone who could…
