Why is a socketweld valve measured from the center (and not at the end) in a piping isometric? While flanged valves are measured from the end?

Socket weld items are typically used in small bore piping which often appear on the isometrics as a field run.
The dimension in a socket weld system is to the heart valves of the valve because it is dependent on the supplier of the valve how deep is the socket.
There are sizing charts with socket weld dimensions on the internet but they are never all the same.
