I´m in Bolivia, South America, the access is not a problem since the work is in a gas plant that has all the facilities to work safely, the hot tap will be performed vertically, overhead clearance isn´t a problem and you are right about the weight of the tapping machine. We will verify the condition of the header line by measuring the actual thickness (U.T.), we also have the initial composition of the header pipe.

    I´ll complete my profile info….

    Thanks for your interest!!!

    Jop,

I´m Mechanical Engineer with just 1 1/2 years of experience in this field, and i´m questioning what the engineering department suggested about this situation, which is, perform the hot tap, not adding a reinforcement, always with the approval of the client.

    Tim,

Agree with the information issue , post-weld heating isn´t required, and the line pressure 150 psi, material GrB, thickness 0.250″, do not ask for reinforcement. Hope your questions are answered.

We finally use full port valves, but I think we could save some money since pressure loss wasn´t an issue (it was located in the middle of a 10″ line and will be used very rarely). We installed the by-pass by hot-tapping the line so we didn´t use a reducer.

    try this link:

as i remember this gaskets do not include bolts, so you have to specify bolts and nuts separately, the bolts are longer due to the insulating gasket thickness…..that´s what i know

    hi riz

i would also like to have your raychem info, and ask you a couple of questions.

Up to which pipe diameter have u used the shrinkable sleeves?

Is it possible to use SPC (a brand of polymer coating) instead of the sleeve?

    esteven,

try using “litio”, which is a very easy-to-use AutoCAD based program, and I think is freeware, it will help you with the templates

    Good Luck!!
