Rates will vary but one thingI found from my own personal experience is the enticing offer of a tax free salary. What is actually offered is sometimes only +20 % of your current net income which makes it seem hardly worthwhile for being away from home.

I am there at the moment, Project i am on is running till mid year so i am not affected yet but it is quite clear that where they were struggling a few months ago to man up, now there is a lot of designers becoming available and they can be more selective. Mining seems to be more affected more than O&G at the moment. A lot of projects are shelfed until there is a clearer picture of the way things are going.

That been said, if you are an experienced designer, securing work should be be possible. Its probably some of the less experienced guys that will find it hard.

I have been over from Ireland since 2006 so if i can help you with agents and companies i found to be alright to work with, let me know

    Cheers

Try the following link and download the design guide pdf. Its got a section on supporting spans and other information in there. I have some standard pipe support details if you need them too.

    HI

I would like to get a feel for the current job market in Ireland I might have to return from Australia to Ireland and wondering whats the current rates range for a designer with PDS/PDMS. Has the recent dowturn had any significant effect on things. The only thing i have been looking at is irishjobs.ie and do not see many new positions on that recently

I would not say ‘” way off the mark”. Thats why JOP asked for more information in an earlier post. Just asking what flange rotation is not specific enough cas people all over the world can have different terms to describe things. Asking the question describing the context would make things clear.

As you mentioned yourself, an important driver in determining an acceptable deflection is the pipe gradient. If you are developing a generic allowable pipe span table for all services. You will need to look at the minimum gradient of piping that is required to be free draining . Then ensure the deflection at midpoint of the pipe span will not allow service commodity to gather.

Your explanation was clear and detailed so no need for the pdf. Thanks for taking the time out of your day to write such a good response. Have a good holiday.

Thats interesting. I am currently working on a deluge system run in Cu-Ni . The spec branch table specifies equal tees only. Any reducing branches require a saddle or weldolet. In my opinion the ammount of time required in fabrication to cut out a coupon for a saddle and weld it would mean that a reducing tee would be a more logical choice. As is many times the case, the spec comes from the client and there is little we can do to change this.

If you find PDMS unfriendly, i advise you never to put your hand up to work with PDS.

Is not NPT = (National Pipe Thread) and designated in ANSI B1.20.1

CAF 1/16″ = Compressed Asbestos Fibre Gasket 1/16″ thickness

Looks like a line number to me

    16 inch size

    P describes the service

1412 is a unique number assigned to that line

    A1A is the pipe specification

Check out the pipe spec for the project and that will tell you what schedule pipe it is
