Drawings was created by maj
Hi!
With reference to Cooling Water System, can anybody tell me the difference between different types of drawings?
There are diferent drawings associated with CWS such as, general arrangement drawing, equipment layout, piping layout, area piping drawing etc. I really don't understand what to include in which drawing.
Is there any standard defining the details to be included in a particular drawing? I searched the definitions of drawings on the internet and didn't find much.

I’m sorry, but I have to ask. ...“IF” you don’t know what drawings to generate to define your cooling water system, HOW did you get this assignment?

If I were doing this Cooling Tower Area (2D CAD or manually) I would have the following:
Drawings for issue:
- Plot Plan - (1 required) This would have minimal detail with squares, rectangles and circles representing equipment. It would show the roads in outline only. It would show ant other above ground new or existing object, building or obstruction with minimum detail. All objects would be labeled. Depending on your company's normal practice, you may have coordinated (or dimensions) locating the equipment and other objects. Regardless the outline (or Battery Limits) of the area would have a border (line style) with coordinates.

- Underground Piping Plan Drawing - (1 or more depending on the amount of Underground piping) This would be an Orthographic drawing showing only the piping, foundations and other underground obstruction that is underground. The scale would be much smaller than the above ground drawings.

- Piping Plan Drawings - (Quantity depends on the size of the overall requirement and the scale) These are "Orthographic Drawings" showing the plan view of all areas where piping is above ground. These drawings would show the equipment in very simplified detail but the piping in a higher level of detail. The scale of these drawings should be selected to show the required detail.

- Piping Section Drawings - (Quantity as required) These drawings show the vertical plane side view of areas where the Piping Plan Drawings do not visually explain the detail. The level of detail and the scale is the same as the Piping Plan Drawings.

- Piping Isometrics - (Quantity- As required) These are isometric drawings of a line or part of a line complete with all graphics, dimensions, data and notes required for the purchase of material, the fabrication of the piping configurations and the installation. Normally these would only be for above ground piping but may also include the underground piping.

Drawings for "Development" (Not for issue):
- Preliminary Equipment & Piping Layout - (Quantity and Scale as required) These drawings should be limited to areas where concepts need to be worked out. If you already know what the finished product will look like then go ahead with the Piping Plan Drawings. The level of detail should be limited because these will be thrown away.

Comments:
-I do not use or recommend the use of "General Arrangement Drawings" This is a title that means nothing in the Piping field. General Arrangement Drawing, general arrangement of what? If it is a plan drawing and it shows piping then the proper title is "Piping Plan Drawing."

-To find examples of what to include on different types of drawings try to find your company's files from old projects. Spend some time looking at what was done in the past.
