Piping Designer to Planner/Scheduler was created by bramllr
I have been doing piping design/drafting for 4 years now and I have recently started looking at planner/scheduler jobs. I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on what all a planner/scheduler does and how whats the stress level of their jobs? Do they mainly just put together cost reports and go to the field to make sure everyone is lined up on what they need to be doing? If someone has an overview of what they do I would like to know. Also would it be easy for me to get into one of these positions?

Thanks

Four years is a very short time to be in the business. Have you already decided that you do not like piping? I hope you know there is a lot more to "Piping" than being a CAD jockey.

I have recently started looking at planner/scheduler jobs.
Why? Do you know someone in that group who is prompting you to make a switch?

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on what all a planner/scheduler does
For this you need to (1) ask your supervisor for permission to talk to the Manager of the Planning & Scheduling (P/S) Group and (2) talk to only the Manager to find out what you want to know.

whats the stress level of their jobs?
Ask the P/S Manager.

Do they mainly just put together cost reports and go to the field to make sure everyone is lined up on what they need to be doing?
Ask the P/S Manager.

If someone has an overview of what they do I would like to know.
Ask the P/S Manager of your company. Each company would be different.

Also would it be easy for me to get into one of these positions?
Ask the P/S Manager.
