Pipe slope symbol was created by GreenLantern
hi!

i just want to clarify the slope symbol in P&id.
(im working on PDMS)

if just the triangle is shown in the line is it still need a slope in pipe modelling? what usually the slope used if the slope will be incorporated in the model?

i usually see this symbol on the relief line.

thank you in advance. help me understand the symbol.

The proper way, show the "Slope Symbol" and the amount of Slope required (1:100, 1:50, 1:10, etc). Just the Slope Symbol by it self means nothing.

Do it once and Do it Right

The ammount of slope required may also be designated as degree of slope (1 degree etc)

If you see a slope symbol with no actual slope requirement against it, ask the process engineer responsible for that particular P&ID - maybe they are using the symbol to identify a line that must be fully drainable, but this should usually be identified with "no pockets" or something similar.

If in doubt, always ask.

Piper should not assume the amount of slope....it always comes from the process (normally on the PIDs). So as Jop & Anton said...ask process..!

Have a look at the Legend & General notes P & IDs where sometimes you will find note which will roughly say this:
"Slope of 1:XXX to be maintained unless otherwise stated."
This general note applies to all P & IDs. This probably saves them from pasting the slope (ratio that is) all over!

By relief, if you mean the main flare header then it will surely have slope.

Thanks guys for the info.

i gather also some info and they said from the relief line start from the relief valve it is a free draining since the valve is on the higher position but the header (flare line) that should have a slope.

thank you all....
