Pump Suction Piping

Hi all..in designing pump suction piping, where is the best location for the top flat eccentric reducer?
Is it near/min to the suction flange or should be 5D from the flange?
Is this 5D requirment only for the centrifugal pump to protect the pump impeller?

Critical considerations must be given while designing pump suction piping. There are many factors which can affect the operation of pump.

The direct connection of any type of pipe fitting to the pump suction nozzle should be avoided. Direct connection of elbows
should always be avoided.

The ideal suction pipe approach to the pump’s impeller eye is straight pipe at least of 5D length.
