high point vent and dew point was created by Deepu
Hi all,

During hydrotesting of complex piping how can we ensure there is no air entrapment in the system. Is Provison of high point vent the only solution?.Is there any other methods available to check air entrapment.with some calculation or pressure drop etc

Also can some one explain the problem with air entrapment and why is it taken seriously.

Another issue is Dew point- dryness of vessels after testing how can it be done. Can some one share their thoughts.Thanks.

You asked 3 questions.

#1. Please use the Search tool on the Forum.
Example:
search.php?keywords=High+Point+Vent&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search

#2. If you have a big slug of air in the line and/or vessel then you do not know if the loss of (test) pressure is due to a leak or the cooling of the air.

#3. To "Dry" a system (when required) the recommended practice is to purge the system with an extended flow of heated nitrogen. A moisture analyzer or hydrometer is attached on the outlet point to "read" the dew point and verify that the system is dry.

You screw up the process if trap noncondensable gas or air are trapped in your system. After purging the drum with N2, the only thing that needs to be done is to ensure you hookup a pressure gauge to ensure that positive pressure is being maintained over a period of time.

Thanks for the reply.
Can you please explain why the process affected if noncondensable gas or air are trapped in the system. Also can you explain what is meant by"positive pressure being maintained over a period of time".
Thankis
