Component Weight

How this calculation works: Component Weight — Companion Article

Component weight

Look up the stored weight of a pipe, fitting, flange or valve. Choose the component, enter the nominal size, then filter the families. For pipe, enter a length to total a stored kg/m or lb/ft weight. A pipe with no stored weight shows a kg/m calculated from outside diameter and wall when those are known, labelled Calculated from OD and wall, not catalogue. For a fitting, flange or valve, enter a quantity to total a stored kg or lb weight. A catalogue with no stored weight says no weight on record.

List

These figures start from the weight stored on the record, shown with its stored spelling. A stored plain-end weight is read as well as a WEIGHT fact. This page does not read a weight out of a family name. For a pipe with no stored weight, when the outside diameter and wall are known, the page shows kg/m = (OD - t) x t x 0.02466 for carbon steel, with OD and t in millimetres. Stainless steel uses 7930 kg/m3 and duplex steel uses 7800 kg/m3. That row is labelled Calculated from OD and wall, not catalogue. For a pipe whose stored or calculated unit is kg/m or lb/ft, including the spellings kilogram per metre and pounds per foot, the page also shows the other of those two units using 1 lb/ft = 1.48816 kg/m, and the total for the length entered. The length toggle uses 1 ft = 0.3048 m. A length may be typed as 6 or 6 m. A pipe unit with no slash and no word per does not state weight per length, and no total is shown. A per-length unit other than kg/m or lb/ft is not converted. For a fitting, flange or valve whose stored unit is kg or lb, the total is that weight times the quantity, using 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. The stored spelling Ib is not treated as lb. Two catalogue weights stay two rows. The list holds 40 rows. Adding a row again replaces that row. The grand total adds only the line totals that have both a kg figure and an lb figure.
