Cut Length

How this calculation works: Cut Length — Companion Article

Cut length

Pipe cut between two fittings. Type both take-outs. No fitting chart is stored on this page.

Formula

L = C − T1 − T2 − G1 − G2

C is the centre-to-centre length. T1 and T2 are the fitting take-outs, centre to the face of the weld. G1 and G2 are the weld gaps. A plain end is a take-out of 0. A closed root is a gap of 0.

Metric lengths are millimetres. US customary lengths accept feet and inches to a fraction, for example 5' 3 7/16 or 5-3-7/16, or a decimal number of inches. The shop length is the exact cut rounded to the nearest 1/16 in.
