I have a question regarding the wall thickness calculation and the hydrotest calculation.

We all know that wall thickness is directly proportional to the design pressure, so how come the pipe does not brust when we do the hydrotest as for the hydrotest calculation we use 1. 5 times(min.) the design pressure and it is directly proportional to the test pressure.

Thanx

Siddharth Jain.

Dear Jain,

When the pipe wall thickness is calcuated the stresses taken for calculation is 90% of the yield stresses. Therefore the hydrotest pressure is one which is normally 1.5 times greater than that of design pressure. This 1.5 times will never exceed 90% of the yield stresses.

Hope I'm clear.

Thanks,
Kumaran

Hello Mr. Kumaran,

I hope you wanted to write "...calculation is 60% of the yield stresses.therefore....."
so 1.5 times of it also will not cross the yield stress...
Am I right or wrong....
If I am wrong...pl. expalin.....
