Line BOM — Companion Article

What this tool does

Line BOM builds a short list of catalogue components with a quantity for each. For every line it shows the stored weights, as the catalogue holds them, and you can export the list as a CSV file.

It does not multiply weight by quantity, total the weights, or calculate pipe weight per length.

When to use it

Use it for a quick take-off of a small line or a spool, when you want each item traced to a catalogue record. It suits early estimates and checking what the catalogue knows about the parts on a line.

For a full material take-off, use your design system. This page holds up to 40 components.

Inputs

  1. Category: pipe, fittings, flanges or valves.
  2. Nominal size as a number, with in or mm.
  3. Family, then one component in that family.
  4. Quantity, a count of items from 1 to 9999. It is not a pipe length.

How it works

Each component you add becomes a line. Adding the same component again replaces that line with the new quantity. It does not add the two together.

Every catalogue that holds the component is shown as its own row, with the stored weight, unit, validation status and source.

Export CSV downloads the item, description, family, category, size, schedule, class, end, material, quantity, catalogue, weight, validation and source for each line.

Understanding the result

  • No weight on record is a gap in the catalogue, not zero.
  • Unit not stated means the page will not guess a unit.
  • Two stored weights stay as two rows.
  • Item numbers update the next time you export after removing a line.

Engineering considerations

Bolts, gaskets, wall thickness and weight per length are not filled in yet. Add them yourself, and say in your list whether bolts are counted as sets or pieces.

Check vendor data for valves and specials before you use a weight for lifting or support design.

Example

Add a weld-neck class 150 flange at NPS 2 with quantity 2. The line shows the catalogue record and says no weight on record. The CSV carries the same line, with quantity 2.

Standards/references (licensed vs interim)

Component identity and weights come from catalogue records with provenance on each row. No standard table is stored or quoted.

Limitations/disclaimer

  • Up to 40 components. A family list stops at 400 components.
  • Olets and fasteners are not in the picker yet.
  • No totals and no weight per length.
  • The result is preliminary and needs engineering review.
